The Future

In this article I muse about what I'm going to do on Nostr going forward.
The Future

I’ve spent considerable time recently thinking about being a “creator” on the internet. While I’ve never been very good at it in the sense of building an “influencer” size audience, I don’t regret anything I’ve used the internet to accomplish.

Just before the Covid psyop was unleashed on humanity I decided to focus my attention on writing a blog article every day. I’ve never been social on the internet. I’ve always viewed the public side of this global network as akin to media. It’s public. And I’ve never attempted to use the internet to “sell” anything other than my opinions and convictions – almost exclusively about politics and religion. Some people have donated money to me over the years as a result of this internet use. But not many. I haven’t been successful fund raising for my internet publishing.

I’m pondering limiting my focus going forward as an internet creator to one Nostr article a day – and as many Notes as I choose to publish – for the following reasons:

  • George Gilder’s description of “Life After Google” a few years ago inspired me. He described internet gadgetry and networking as a complement to my humanity in place of exhaustive brutal extraction. In our future life after Google, the internet will no longer serve the interests of only the rich and powerful. It will be forced into it’s proper place in the technological toolbox of humanity.

  • Gilder predicted that public/private key cryptography would play an important role, as would the recently invented timestamped blockchain technology that serves as the backbone to the Bitcoin protocol.

  • The Nostr protocol integrates both of these relatively new internet technologies into an affordable publishing/social platform. Gilder’s identity layer is yet to emerge, but I can see the beginnings of it in Nostr’s deployment of cryptography.

  • I will post daily Notes and Reads concerning topics in which I’m interested. Those include – but are not necessarily limited to – the following: religion, philosophy, history, politics, music, Maine, family life, nature, money and science.

  • I absolutely love the integration of Bitcoin into Nostr. The idea of providing a signal of approval to a creator that includes real monetary value instead of a data point for a platform (a Like) that Mark Zuckerberg then sells to an advertiser is HUGE.

  • Another Nostr essential feature is the censorship resistance. Everyone’s content is protected from censorship by the relay layer/functionality. No single business or government has the power to delete my account, or eliminate the distribution of my speech. This is also HUGE when compared to the existing platform centric nature of content publishing and distribution. The religious and political speech controllers have way too much power on these platforms now.

  • My current home on the internet is a Wordpress website. It provides functionality not currently available using Nostr – forms and email list management/publishing for example. I do, however, see the beginnings of these functions in some Nostr Apps that are currently deployed.

  • I’ve pretty much decided that going forward with an email list is more trouble than it is worth. I delete all non-personal emails that hit my inbox now. I know I’m not alone in that management tactic for incoming email messages.

  • My website also integrates an inactive Stripe donation page. I could invite fiat donations using that website. I’m, however, retired and more interested in going as deep down the Bitcoin rabbit hole as I possibly can. Since that’s the case Nostr Sats will likely provide all the monetary Zapping I need. I have @38a1c...2fd09 to thank for my deepening interest in Bitcoin.
