Former NS Bouncer Sentenced to 4 Years for Manslaughter in Patron’s Death

A former Halifax Alehouse bouncer was sentenced to four years in prison for manslaughter in the death of a patron following an altercation outside the bar. Alexander Pishori Levy was arrested and charged with manslaughter in August 2023, convicted in November 2025, and sentenced by Justice James Chipman of the Nova Scotia Supreme Court on April 24, 2026. A separate charge of criminal negligence causing death was conditionally stayed to avoid multiple convictions for the same act. Levy’s sentencing follows the death of 31-year-old Ryan Sawyer on Dec. 24, 2022. Sawyer, who was living in Ontario and visiting Halifax for the Christmas holidays, became involved in an altercation inside the Alehouse before being removed by security for allegedly being disruptive.
