§2023 Was Bigger Than You Thought

People will remember 2023 for different reasons. Some as a “winter”, others as “the year of ordinals” and others as the year that Bitcoin became institutionalized, with all of the ETF speculation.

Whilst true, we believe there were much more significant undercurrents.

The 2022-2023 Bitcoin winter has been the longest of all. The price declined for over 490 days: the longest period in history. But in that winder, seeds were planted, which are beginning to show signs of life.

Some of these seeds include what’s happened in the following three countries:

1. Oman
2. El Salvador
3. The Kingdom of Bhutan

What’s special about them?

They all began to publicly acknowledge their nations were not only mining Bitcoin, but investing billions of dollars into building mining infrastructure.

This is perhaps one of the largest developments in Bitcoin. It is integrating itself into the energy system of the world, and energy is what powers everything. It makes everything else possible.

This is why we chose to dedicate this year’s edition to Energy.

§1. UberMoney

‘’Most people think that Bitcoin’s greatest contribution will be to lift the masses up and “help the weak.

While that will likely occur–and not for the reasons you think it will–it’s my (unpopular) belief that the more important contribution and impact to mankind will be that Bitcoin makes the strongest stronger, the best better, and the most powerful, more powerful.’’

Instead of bending the knee and engaging in a debate surrounding Bitcoin’s energy usage on their grounds (ie; is it renewable and green, or dirty), we should instead change the framing. Using MORE energy is a good thing! Waste is the problem and there is nothing more wasteful than fiat.

Andrew Myers started his essay off by reminding us what Buckminster Fuller said all the way back in 1973:

Bitcoin is poised to continue making revolutionary steps in the realm of energy, and push our civilization towards energy abundance.
