Small and Soft Data — key for a better understanding of yourself with AI extended brain
A digital person is all about data. Our identity and digital self are 100% data in various forms. To understand ourselves better, we need to understand our data footprints. All answers are hidden somewhere in our data. Artificial intelligence agents could help us in our data journey and become our reliable friends, mentors, coaches, and psychologists on top of our data. In short, data is the only thing that matters in a digital space. Data is a key for everything, and even keys are data.
Sovereign first
Do not give a key from your life to somebody else. Your life is your data — you own it.
Sovereign data is all about ownership. Users have untakable rights to control, have access, and give content to others. You are free to share, process, and get benefits from your data and data that was shared with you at any time and forever. It is the main motto and idea of Self-sovereign Data and all platforms that build on top of it.
Small data vs. Big data
Small Data is not about big tech or complex technology. Small data is, first of all, about humans and the brain. So, it is a curated data set of ideas , concepts, beliefs, and dreams that is easy to handle by regular humans. We take an instrument of data meaning and reasoning but apply it to a personal user data set that the user could care about on his device.
Small data still benefits a lot from big data tech and tools. We still want to get meaning from data points and analyze data to understand it better. We should use data tools and refine and get more meaning out of the data. I sincerely believe in Personal Knowledge Graphs and tools for small data.
Hard, Soft, and metadata
- Hard data — is the most common type of data. It is just facts, artifacts like emails, bills, data from your sports watch, and so on. It is data that the majority of companies collect and the majority of IT platforms produce.
- Soft data is data about your values, ideas, and feelings. Your journal could be a good source of your soft data. it is also about your thoughts and your perspectives on facts and concepts
— Mate data — is a broad topic so it is a derivative of soft or hard data that could tell something more about the data itself or give new data points like meaning or analytics on top of data.
Most companies focus on complex data and build many products on top, but often, hard data points are a side effect and not a root cause of your behavior.
If you want to understand yourself better, you should focus more on collecting and analytics on top of soft data and natural root causes.
In a dialogue with Kin, you work more with soft data and your ideas, feelings, and your own perspective of the world around you.
As a result, you could learn more about yourself with Kin.
AI extended brain
We need better and more modern tools to make data small and brain-friendly. We had a lot of tools of thought frameworks, from Renaissance commonplace books to a full-scale second brain and Zettelkasten’s tooling. Now, we have a new tool, personal AI, that could know ourselves deep enough to produce a condensed summary of a large amount of data but with our context, beliefs, and needs. Personal and Private AI agents extend our brain and a second brain to the next level — the polybrain of an interconnected network of experts.
