The House the Airships Skip

Snippet of the world in the making.

A single fortified house by a dusty road, taken only by travelers who have more time than coin - wayfarers, or individuals who can’t or won’t take the airship option. The establishment is usually run by some church order, and usually the keeper would be a member of it. She is NOT the usual deal, though.

Pick your path:

She was helped by the previous keeper, who died, but there is some secret involved that would come out if someone outside came here - so she hesitantly stepped up to keep it under wraps.

Daughter of some royal/high-stakes heir who got stranded and went into exile at this disputed place due to two different counties claiming rights but neither having the will to exercise them beyond heated talks, creating a de facto gray zone where, after the church got involved, nobody has the balls to challenge the status quo. Especially since the heir did nothing after moving there except dying and leaving offspring (that no one outside knows of). Her daughter has some daddy/mommy/anti-establishment issues. She also may be head of a smuggler ring / anti-royal cabal / rebel alliance.

She was cursed long ago by a selfish witch to be forever bound to this place as a servant, to learn hospitality better - a curse so strong it resists even the tethers of time. Yet there is a single grave, overgrown with moss in the far corner of the apple orchard, with lettering hinting at an unusually long lifespan. It could be that the witch learned better ways, returned, and - unable to lift the curse - took it on as her own in the form of penance. Better not to ask her much, though.
