Deterioro de la cartera de las IPS pone en riesgo la atención de los pacientes, advierte la Andi Colombia’s health sector is experiencing a severe financial deterioration, marked by a rapid increase in outstanding debts and a growing risk of underfunding that directly impacts patient care and service accessibility. A survey by the Andi reveals that outstanding debts owed to healthcare providers (IPS) have surged significantly, impacting operational stability and the ability to provide essential health services. This financial strain is directly linked to an increase in patient complaints, particularly concerning technology denials, lack of appointments, and delays in care, with a critical worsening observed in intervened EPS.

  • The Andi’s Health Vice-presidency and Chamber of Healthcare Institutions are calling on the government due to the accelerated deterioration of the sector’s accounts receivable and the increasing risk of underfunding.
  • A survey of 23 IPS shows a drastic increase in outstanding debts, compromising treatment continuity and operational stability.
  • Total accounts receivable for IPS grew from COP 2.8 trillion in Q3 2022 to COP 5.7 trillion in Q3 2025.
  • Overdue accounts receivable also significantly increased, from COP 1.9 trillion in Q3 2022 to COP 4.2 trillion in Q3 2025.
  • The proportion of current accounts receivable has decreased, falling from 30.4% in Q3 2023 to 26.7% in Q3 2025.
  • Average collection cycles have extended from 190 days in Q3 2022 to 211 days in Q3 2025.
  • Patient complaints reached record highs in June 2025, exceeding 180,000 monthly, with the main reasons being technology denials (21%), lack of appointments (17%), and treatment delays (16%).
  • Accounts receivable for intervened EPS increased by 269% from 2022 to 2025, reaching over COP 1 trillion.
  • Overdue accounts receivable for intervened EPS grew by 293%, reaching over COP 764 billion.
  • In Nueva EPS specifically, total accounts receivable increased by 259.8% and overdue accounts receivable by 276.9% between 2022 and 2025.
  • The Andi is urging the government and the Ministry of Health to comply with the Constitutional Court’s orders regarding the insufficiency of the UPC and to implement financial measures to prioritize the continuity of health services.
