I have been following as the the situation unfolds after US and Israel attacked Iran and the Iranian’s retaliatory strikes. I have listened to many entities and persons pro western defend such actions as good and necessary on a said repressive, evil and a sponsor of terrorism Iranian government. I have also listened to pro Iran (pro Eastern?) entities and persons call the attack illegal, and an act of aggression.

But I would like to look at the implications that this attack has. After world war 2, we established institutions and laws that should protect the world from being plunged into a world where the strong eats the weak. These laws relatively ensured so and even though we know that the strong always did what they wanted to the weak, they still did so with restraint.

Whether you support the attack or don’t, one thing should be realised. International laws that have kept a relative peace in the world were thrown out of the window and this will have long lasting implications.

It is Internationally illegal to attack and kill a sitting president/ruler of a sovereign state. This attack has set a precedent, if the US can do it, then everyone else who can, can do it. What laws are we going to talk about if Russia decided to take out Zelensky? If North Korea decided to take out the president of South Korea? Ok if even Iran decides to assassinate Netanyahu and succeed? What is the legal premise are we going to hold such accountable when a permanent and founding member of the UNSC can do that without consequences? Is this not a recipe of anarchy in the world? It is a known thing that those with power must be responsible. In my this is reckless on the part of the US especially and cannot be a moral leader in the world.

I have heard many comments from the Israelis, government officials, IDF and common citizens. Whether you support their cause or not, they have Incurred the spite of many in the world and it is a terrible thing for them as a people in the long run. Many innocents among them will suffer. The world has not yet forgotten the Palestinian children being starved and killed yet.

When a winner is decided and the war is over, won’t we have a long lasting problem? Birthed from all of this war. Not to mention the economic crisis especially on weak economies. What will be the state of Individual Freedoms? Are going to have freedoms and rights at all? The future seems bleak, my heart pains.
