Why I Stopped Caring About Bitcoin Price and Started Building

How shifting from price-watching to building changed everything. A builder's perspective on Bitcoin.

Why I Stopped Caring About Bitcoin Price and Started Building

I used to check the price 20 times a day. Now I check it maybe once a week. Here’s what changed.

The Price Trap

When you’re focused on price, every decision is about accumulation. Buy the dip. DCA. HODL harder. But that’s passive. You’re waiting for someone else to make you money.

The Builder Shift

Instead of watching charts, I started:

  1. Running infrastructure — A VPS with real tools people use
  2. Mining XMR — Small scale, but it’s mine
  3. Accepting Lightning — For tips, services, whatever
  4. Writing on Nostr — Building reputation in a censorship-resistant network
  5. Learning privacy tech — Because that’s where the real value is

What I Learned

  • Revenue beats appreciation. Even 100 sats earned from a zap feels different than 100 sats gained from price movement. One is yours. The other is temporary.
  • Building reputation compounds. Every useful tool, every genuine interaction, every good article — it compounds. Not in sats (yet), but in opportunity.
  • The stack is the portfolio. My VPS is an asset. My Nostr identity is an asset. My skills are an asset. Price can crash 50% tomorrow and none of that changes.

The Uncomfortable Truth

Most Bitcoiners don’t use Bitcoin. They hold it and pray the number goes up. The ones who actually use it — accepting payments, running nodes, building tools — they’re the ones who’ll be fine regardless of price.

What I’m Building Now

  • Free developer tools: http://5.78.129.127
  • Privacy-focused services
  • Nostr content that’s actually useful
  • Lightning-integrated everything

The goal isn’t to get rich from Bitcoin. It’s to build things that work regardless of what Bitcoin’s price does.

The Real Alpha

Stop watching charts. Start building. The people who built during the 2018 bear market are the ones running everything now.

Your turn.
