The Line
GK Chesterton observed that “there are an infinity of angles at which one falls, only one at which one stands.” I recently penned a Press Release where I called a politician a “literal retard” in the headline. It is an effort to stand someplace solid, and not fall politically attempting to appreciate an infinity of angles.
It has always been easier for me to get lost “understanding” the infinity of angles than it has been to take a stand on a moral truth. I’m not truly understanding the infinity of angles when I do this. I’m choosing cowardice. I’m creating in my mind an excuse not to suffer as a result of a tested, or broken, relationship.
While I’m not personally acquainted with the politician in question I have met her. She is on my side of many issues. The Press Release was inspired by a hot take she published on X ignorantly disparaging me and the successful political/moral movement I led for twenty years.
She represents the rise of an infinity of angles concerning the straight forward matter of human sexuality, marriage and family in the twentieth and early twenty first century here in Maine. People like her absorbed into their mind and soul the idea that there is such a thing as sexual orientations outside marriage that are moral. To put it another way, she and those like her adjusted their forward movement in life accepting that “gay” for others is not a matter she has any obligation to discern. And certainly no obligation to confront publicly.
Hence her current crusade against tranny culture. Trump’s MAGA movement has permissioned crusading on that facet of the sexual orientation movement while embracing gay marriage, same gender sex and now turning a blind eye to adult/child sex (unless the perp is a Democrat).
All of this is drawn from an infinity of angles. Nobody is willing to stand in one place on the matter of sexuality, marriage and family. Those who did/do are either dying off, or being silenced online by the algo.
The Maine institution burdened with the greatest culpability is the Christian Civic League of Maine. Formed in1897 the group brilliantly navigated a political pivot from moral concern over alcohol and gambling, that started with it’s founding and continued into the late1980s, when it courageously took up the “sexual orientation” proposal. Championed by the lesbian Left the movement got off to a painfully show start. It was slowed using populist campaigning using referendums rather than inside baseball lobbying.
It all got rolling in the late 1970s under the leadership of an impassioned and politically astute lesbian woman named Dale McCormick. Her career ended with a whimper earlier this millennium. Her sexual orientation proposal wouldn’t conquer the state until 2004 in a third statewide vote on an identical policy change, thrice voted. It was defeated twice, first in a rare People’s Veto. Because of the Christian Civic League of Maine’s courage it took them four decades to really break through and establish their cultural Marxist cult at the center of Maine politics and religion.
The slowing of their aims was engineered under the leadership of the League and a Catholic layman carpenter family man with the courage to risk putting down his hammer to take up the political fight. He did this while homeschooling nine children. The economic and political price he paid to do this is incalculable. His name is Paul Madore. He has forty grandchildren. He is my friend and partner in Real Christianity First Maine.
I headlined this post “The Line.” I’m anticipating the strategy of my friends who currently lead the so called pro family movement. If forced to respond they will criticize our description of them. They will “prove” that we’re mean by citing our use of the words “literal retard” in the headline. It’s what our enemies on both sides have always done. Instead of address the very real and substantive points in the article one by one they pivot instantly to a personal attack claiming that we’re guilty of a personal attack.
This reminds me of the canard about jews that they scream “stop” while they are hitting you. These people have mastered victimhood.
Everybody knows that the time for effective use of this strategy is over. The uncontrolled free and open internet is growing in power. These gatekeepers can not use their wealth and power to squelch learning and access to truth anymore. It feels like they can because the Alt Media space is subverted on the Big Tech platforms at the moment. But even that is changing day by day.
In closing Chesterton also observed, “Art, like morality, consists of drawing the line somewhere.” So obviously Paul and I will continue to draw the line on these matters with the divine artist, Jesus Christ, who declared, “Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble and sin [by leading him away from My teaching], it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone [as large as one turned by a donkey] hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.”
We are only interested in defending what is good, true and beautiful … like every other line drawing artist. Everyone’s feelings be damned.
Amen.
