Payments, subscriptions, and zaps

How zaps and subscriptions work on Decent Newsroom.
Payments, subscriptions, and zaps

Decent Newsroom uses Lightning invoices for payments.

Zaps

Clicking a zap button will open a dialog where you can set the amount and comment, then generate an invoice. In case the article has a zap split configured, you will be prompted to choose the cumulative amount, then a series of invoices will be generated depending on the zap split settings.

Subscriptions you might encounter

Two subscription products available today are:

  • Vanity Name / NIP-05 identity (custom profile URL + verified NIP-05)
  • Active Indexing (fetch/index your long-form content from your declared relays)

Vanity Name / NIP-05 identity

Seeing the full npub in the URL of your profile makes you cringe? You can subscribe to get a short URL for your profile page and a NIP-05 identifier on decentnewsroom.com. You can claim the NIP-05 identifier by adding it to your profile.

Active Indexing

Nostr is decentralized on purpose. Your articles can live on the relays you choose, and that freedom is the point—but it also means there is no single “master library” where readers will automatically find your work. Decent Newsroom is built like a public reading room: anyone can browse without logging in, pages load fast, and content is searchable. To do that, DN runs a background indexer that collects long-form articles from a set of well-known open relays. It’s a good default, but by design it can never be complete. Active Indexing is how you opt in to guaranteed discovery. Add your relay list, and DN will actively look for your long-form posts on those relays and include them in the index. The result: a stable web page for sharing, proper previews, and real “library-style” discovery—while your content stays Nostr-native and hosted where you want it.

If you paid but don’t see your benefits

Decent Newsroom links subscription status/payment history to your npub for accounting/debug purposes. Sometimes, the payment verification stalls. We’ll be able to help you out with that, so reach out. And occasionally, “I paid but nothing changed” situations come down to being logged into a different Nostr identity than the one used at payment time. What to do:

  1. Log out / switch signer, then log back in with the correct identity (the npub you used when paying).
  2. Revisit the subscription page (Vanity / Active Indexing) while logged in.
  3. If it still doesn’t reflect correctly, send feedback (see below) with:
  • your npub
  • what you purchased
  • timestamp / invoice details (whatever you’re comfortable sharing)
