Barcelona Dates, Fresh Node Releases, and Open Pods Landing on Hive Video
HiveFest is heading to Barcelona this September. Save-the-date news landed right after last year’s meetup in Kuala Lumpur. Fans are already looking at flights.
This week Hive also shipped Hive 1.28.6 across the core network code, lookup tools (HAF, hivemind), and hive.blog’s feed (Denser). The 3Speak desktop team shipped OpenPods, fixed Hangouts, and cleaned up audio clips. Below we fold in wallet apps, explorers, and the posts Hive paid best this round.
This is HiveToday—a weekly Hive ecosystem recap.
Hive in one breath: Voting picks who writes blocks—you don’t “mine.” Posting reads like Twitter or Tumblr. Day-to-day use does not rack up Ethereum-style gas fees.
Editor’s Take
Three items stood out.
First, the meetup map got real: HiveFest XI is 17–20 September 2026 in Barcelona. ChainCulture is on the schedule again. That helps people from other networks meet Hive builders. Hotel and ticket details are still “coming soon,” but hivefe.st and the @hivefest post are good bookmarks.
Second, one version number hit many parts at once. 1.28.6 touched the main node code, HAF (behind many index tools), hivemind search, witness tools, and Denser (what draws hive.blog feeds). Witnesses, APIs, search, indexes, and the main site stepped forward together. They did not drift as six random forks.
Third, everyday apps stepped up Hive Top Holders, HivePredict, and Hive Keychain (now dipping into Ethereum-style wallets next to Hive). Ecency on phones, Leo on web, and stand-alone explorers all shipped small-but-useful tweaks.
The Story of the Week: HiveFest XI Saves the Date in Barcelona
The @hivefest post sells HiveFest XI as Hive’s eleventh big meetup. Dates: 17–20 September 2026 in Barcelona. The pitch cites culture, beaches, and sunshine.
HiveFest × ChainCulture returns so guests from outside Hive can mingle without drowning out Hive-only talks.
Rough shape looks like past years:
- Thursday — arrivals
- Friday — talks (Hive plus cross-chain meetups)
- Saturday — builder sessions
- Sunday — city time plus closing meal
HiveFest also notes another big event (European Blockchain Convention, 16–17 September) in Barcelona the same stretch. Busy week for travelers.
Hotels plus ticket flow come later. hivefe.st is the RSVP hub for now.
Development Pulse
Core software. Hive’s indexer stack (HAF) can bounce back after a bad stop. It no longer sits stuck until someone reboots. Public API nodes gained better dashboards, logs, database tuning, and retries. That cuts slow-site moments before users flood chat.
Search and feeds. Hivemind search works again after a database upgrade broke text search. Denser (hive.blog feeds) dropped a prefetch bug that could freeze timelines. Engineers also shrunk huge test files so bugs are easier to replay.
Money math on chain. Balance tools now flag exact token IDs instead of blurry labels. Another patch splits staking moves (power-ups / power-downs) so charts can tell user choice from auto rules. Reputation and NFT tracking moved with 1.28.6 too.
Hive video. The 3Speak desktop app added OpenPods with playback inside the app. Hangouts fixes cut login bugs and timing glitches. Snapie Audio stores clip lengths more cleanly.
C/HiveDevs highlights worth a skim: @beggars on Hive Scratch looks, HivePredict tuning, cutehive.com around Hive Top Holders, and @pibara on MERG‑E.
Project Spotlights
Ecency — big look-back on ops plus Ecency Mobile 3.5.5 (emoji search, clipboard fixes, sharper 3Speak embeds) and a tighter staking explainer (transparency · 3.5.5 · delegation primer).
3Speak Encoder Network — encoder week 22 log.
Magi Network — a Decentralized Hive Fund (DHF) pitch for 2026 plus plain talk on moving HBD (Hive’s dollar-style coin) across chains: HBD post · proposal.
Hive Keychain — walkthrough on using Hive Keychain next to Ethereum-style apps: see the steps.
LeoFinance — how to add funds to Maya Protocol pools (guide).
Worldmappin / HiveBuzz / OCD — @worldmappin ran Travel Digests #2906–#2912; Worldmappin v2 still draws votes (Digest #2912). HiveBuzz posted April Power Up Month prize delegations (post). OCD curators filed report #2212.
Network Stats
| Metric | This issue’s snapshot |
|---|---|
| HIVE price (CoinGecko) | ~$0.06596 |
| HIVE market cap | ~$35.75M |
| CoinGecko rank | ~#637 |
| HBD print rate (chain) | 0 (no fresh HBD author rewards minted here) |
| HIVE powered up — 7d | ~203,439 HIVE |
| HIVE powered down — 7d | ~521,420 HIVE |
| Net staking flow (7d) | ~−318k HIVE (more came out than went in) |
HBD, short: The chain shows no new HBD rewards paid out this snapshot. Debt math counts hive.fund vault coins apart from wallets; fans call that “gross” vs “effective.” Skip guesswork from random charts—use live node data if you need hard numbers.
Staking swings: Whale power-ups still hit the feed (@demotruk, @fabio, @d-hive). Yet the rolling week net sold more stake than bought. Moves can be taxes, swaps, or timing—not one “herd mood” knob.
Governance
Twenty top witness nodes run Hive v1.28.3. @deathwing stays on v1.28.0—fine today, merely older.
Funding lines below cleared proposal #0 (“pay nothing”). Miss that bar cash stays parked.

About Hive
Hive is one shared ledger for blogs, shops, games, savings coins, and chat apps. People vote for who writes each block. You do not run mining rigs in a garage. Likes and replies usually skip the tiny fees that bite users on some other chains. Many teams share wallets, plugins, and code so apps stay quick.
